Clock (and body) confusion

Clock confusion.

“We need to leave by 12:20pm” I announced yesterday to a friend. And there on her clock was 12:50pm. I had a momentary panic.

“Oh right”, she said. “We need to change the clocks.”

It’s that precious time of year where clocks change. But our bodies aren’t like a piece of technology where we just click a button and suddenly we are ticking away without problem. We fall back an hour, but cues like sunlight in our morning and evening routine totally shift.

And that’s not some slight thing.

We humans are impacted by sunlight or the lack thereof.

And folks… I’m trying to figure out how to handle this transition. I know that key habits like a consistent bedtime and no phones in my bedroom are important, regardless of when the sun is setting.

I realize I may be less inclined in the coming months to go out for a bike ride during the work week, with an early sunset and my notoriously cold fingers and toes (yes, even with hand warmers). But yet, getting out to move my body is so instrumental to my sense of overall wellbeing and sanity.

So, I’d love to hear from you dear community.

How do you embrace the shift in time and sunlight with the end of daylight savings?

What in the past has made the end of daylight savings more manageable for you?

How do you motivate yourself to get out and embrace the fresh, cool air when when shift from fall into winter and have less daylight?

Drop me a line at [email protected] . I’d love to share your thoughts (however poetic or scientific or crazy they are) with our community.

Wheels up,

Ellen
