riding for a better world
Do you have a baguette and brie friend? That friend who knows that despite all the world’s problems perhaps bringing out the brie with some good bread will be a tasty bandaid for the heart and soul?
Thanks to one sweaty August night three years ago, schmoozing with strangers at the mid-point pit stop of DC Bike Party, I met Hallie, who has become my bonafide baguette + brie friend (Yes… I made a friend thanks to biking!).
This past August, I actually showed up to DC Bike Party solo and unsurprisingly, bumped into Hallie and as we rolled through Georgetown, traded our Rose/Bud/Thorns from our day.
Hallie is that kind of friend where you feel seen + supported + have fun together.

Us sweaty celebrating 3 years of friendship at the end of August’s DC Bike Party!
And one of the topics that’s emerged over our friendship is how Hallie’s dad has MS- Multiple Sclerosis and the challenges associated with this disease. When Hallie asked me over the summer if I’d join her and her “punny team” Wheelie Good Friends to bike 75 miles from just outside of Philly to the Atlantic Ocean to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, I was all in.
I love biking.
I love supporting a friend.
And how great that together we can make a difference in the life of folks like Hallie’s dad (and thereby Hallie and many other individuals and families).
I’m not an expert on MS, just a friend of someone for whom MS has deeply impacted her family. And recently I learned that if it weren’t for the research and work of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Hallie’s dad most likely wouldn’t even be alive today. When he was diagnosed over 35 years ago, he had a life expectancy of 10 more years and he’s still kicking today.
The National MS Society is the best investment to solve the challenges of MS — with information, connections, support and a global network collaborating to cure MS.
As I train for this 75 mile ride, I’ve raised over $341 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and would love your support to hit my goal to raise $700.
If you have received any nuggets of wisdom from the newsletter or through Circle and Spoke’s in-person retreats and gatherings, I hope you’ll pay it forward by joining me by making a donation to my fundraising campaign supporting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
As I bike 75 miles (furthest I’ll have ever biked in one day) later this month, together we’ll be making the world a better place for people with MS. Thanks for cheering me on through your support!
Wheels up,
Ellen
