toddler fun
Yesterday I was teaching a learn to ride class and I was noticing how these adults were just hopping along and trying to learn to glide.
Which straight up looked like my nibbling attempting to “mountain bike” the other week. My nibbling is TWO. And decided, let me take the gravel slant from the cul-da-sac to who knows where.
It was all exploration and play.
Seeing these adults hopping and gliding around made me think of my toddler nibbling, so suddenly I announced to these adults they were having “toddler fun.”
The ride to learn students smiled and laughed.
It takes such bravery and courage to decide as an adult, I’m going to learn to ride a bike. But also, it requires you to put your ego aside and get a little silly. Alas, you are learning to move your body in a foreign way.
I’m currently learning a new language and every class, I’m tripping up over words and together as a class we celebrate our wins and in many moments have “toddler fun.” We smile and laugh as we try to “hop around” and get a grasp of the language. I definetly make a fool of myself, but I’m also having fun.
Toddler fun— isn’t some word in the dictionary— but I’d like to say that what it’s all about (hokey pokey and all) is: entering new territory for the first time (or the first time in a long time), exploring that environment with a sense of openness and having a grand ol’ silly time.
When was the last time you had some toddler fun?
So, here’s an invitation… go have some toddler fun this week…
Pull out the dusty hola hoop and try to twirl it around your body.
Or bike down a hill on your bicycle and scream out the silliest ‘weeee.’
Or go bobbing for apples.
Who said you can’t have some toddler fun even as an adult?
Wheels up,
Ellen
