Why is this not standard?
Getting on your bike without losing your balance
There are things that I assume come standard in life:
Southwest Airlines will crack some silly joke in the safety briefing.
Tourists will block the sidewalks in Times Square.
Your bicycle will have a kickstand.
Alas, I have discovered that actually you have to opt in for a kickstand. It doesn’t come standard.
So if you are one of those anti or non-kickstand users, you already know how to gracefully let your bike lie on the ground!
Which brings me to this week’s tip. My auntie loved it and hopefully you will too…
Finding an easy way for you and your body to get on and off your bike helps you feel confident and in balance!
You don’t need to be super flexible with tae bo coordination (if you are under the age of 25 you probably have no idea what this martial art is) to get in and out of the saddle.
Tip #2: Lying your bike on the ground can help you mount and dismount your bike with ease! Even better, you don’t have to get onto the ground to do this move… your bike does!
I literally scoured the internet last week trying to find a video of this maneuver and I couldn’t find one. So hot off the press is my new Youtube Short showing how to use the blessed ground to help you mount and dismount your bike.
And it’s Cherry Blossom Season in DC, so you get the good fortune of seeing some pretty petals in this short! It might not win an Oscar, but it might help your body feel golden!
You might feel more comfortable and in balance with this move! Try it out! Figure out what suits you!
Wheels up,
Ellen
